Aéroports de Lyon: a sports enthusiast's airport

01 May 2016

This summer, Lyon is the place to be for any sports fanatic. Be it cycling or football, Lyon will be a central location to those looking to grab a part of the action.
With major sporting events such as the Tour de France and UEFA Euro 2016 being held in and around Lyon, a sharp rise in both flights and travellers is expected from June until August. To be able to adequately accommodate for this influx, Aeroports de Lyon has already put a number of measures in place to make sure that those travellers get the service they deserve.

  • Specifically for UEFA Euro 2016, a total of 24 additional category C flight stationing areas are to be created to be able to handle the increase in both inbound and outbound flights.

  • Up to 340 additional tour operator flights are estimated to be coming in and out of Lyon airport are during Euro 2016.

  • The airport will serve as a transfer airport for the Northern Irish team, and the airport will take care of their needs especially.

  • The over 2000 Airport helpers will be at hand to help fans and enthusiasts get to where they need to be. This can be to the Welcome Zone, the specifically provided coach services or any other transport related service.

  • VIP visits will be personally taken care of by Aeroports de Lyon together with official EUFA 2016 staff.

  • During this period there will also be an increase in the number of business jets with approximately 150 additional flights already planned.
