Aéroports de Lyon is revolutionising security in its car parks with the roll-out of Ascento Guard, an innovative surveillance robot
Aéroports de Lyon is rolling out Ascento Guard, an AI-powered outdoor security robot, to step up surveillance and security in its car parks, making it the first French airport to adopt this technology.
The robot, which has been trialled since 3 July 2026, offers advanced deterrence, surveillance and detection capabilities thanks to its 360° cameras, thermal imaging and all-terrain mobility.
This project highlights Aéroports de Lyon’s role as one of VINCI Airports’ three centres of excellence for innovation.
Aéroports de Lyon, operated by VINCI Airports and one of its Centres of Excellence for Innovation, is reaffirming its commitment to the security of its passengers and their belongings. The airport has announced the roll-out of Ascento Guard, a state-of-the-art outdoor security robot, to step up surveillance in its car parks. This initiative, in partnership with its security provider Byblos Hub Security, positions Aéroports de Lyon as the first airport in France to roll out such an innovative solution, demonstrating a proactive innovation strategy aimed at delivering operational excellence and peace of mind for its passengers.
Since 3 July 2026, the Ascento Guard robot has been undergoing a two-month trial. The proposed solution marks a significant step forward in the ongoing improvement of airport infrastructure. Designed to deter, monitor and detect, this smart robot uses artificial intelligence to patrol car parks, including pedestrian areas and access ramps, with greater efficiency and accuracy.
Cutting-edge technology for greater efficiency: Ascento Guard is equipped with thermal and 360° cameras, spotlights and advanced mobility, providing continuous patrols with an 8-hour operating time.
Privacy Protection: The robot incorporates robust data privacy features, such as face blurring by default and configurable settings, ensuring optimal cybersecurity.
“This initiative, in partnership with our security provider BYBLOS, is fully in line with VINCI Airports’ vision of making its airports benchmarks in terms of innovation and service quality. Aéroports de Lyon is already well-known for initiatives such as Stan, the valet robot, and the AI-powered virtual assistant, and is continuing to explore cutting-edge technologies to optimise operations and enhance the traveller experience. The integration of Ascento Guard strengthens infrastructure security while offering passengers greater peace of mind,” explained Cédric Fechter, Chairman of the Board of Aéroports de Lyon.
